DUOLINGO
I've been using DUOLINGO now for 3 years or more.
I think it's the best of the free apps for language learning out there, but here's my evaluation as of now:
PROS:
It's FREE! (unless you pay extra, but I've never felt the need to )
It's PROGRESSIVE. You only study the next lesson when you're ready.
There's a COMMUNITY who will answer every grammar query.
There are so MANY languages available to learn.
The AMUSING phrases are on purpose. They make you smile - and remember!
A daily lesson takes FIVE MINUTES only!
PRACTISE! it will let you learn your weakest words.
TIPS & NOTES: always read these if you can.
CONS:
The VOCABULARY is limited/restricted.
You can't JUMP to a certain topic or level, unless you've reached that stage.
There are so FEW languages available to learn if you're a foreign learner.
It's not a PHRASE BOOK. Does it teach you what you need to say?
Some languages have less Moderator SUPPORT than others
STREAKS... I never bother. Yes, there are advantages to keeping them, but...
TIPS & NOTES are not available on all platforms... certainly not on iPhone
TIMEWASTERS on comments... especially from India. What's that all about?

Lifelong Language Learning
I've been learning language since I was born, and foreign languages since I was 7.
I was never always that good at it, but now I teach them.
Here's my attempt to share this passion with you!
